Atelier Melano
New Zealand
I am a painter living between New Zealand and France, between ocean and memory. I draw my inspiration from places where water meets light, and colour becomes feeling.
My travels are a constant source of inspiration, shaping the colours, mood and emotion in my work. There is something about arriving somewhere new the particular quality of light, the weight of the air, the scale of a landscape that demands to be felt before it can be painted. I do not set out to represent; I set out to respond.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, I am drawn to the directness of the medium. Each layer carries the memory of the one before it. The brush moves fast, instinctively, and it is in that raw motion that something true emerges.
